Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust – Veterinary hospital and stables

The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust is a Surrey based charity that helps working horses and donkeys in The Gambia in West Africa. They were delighted to receive a generous grant from the Elise Pilkington Charitable Trust to help them to extend their hay storage facilities and build additional stables at their Makasutu centre.

“Climate change is affecting us all and feed is going to be scarce this year so it is essential that we buy and store as much hay and feed as we can as soon as it is harvested this year” said Heather Armstrong, the Director of the charity.

“The grant has come at just the right moment to enable us to get the barn built before the harvest, then we shall focus on extending the stables. We are so grateful to the Elise Pilkington Charitable Trust for their support for our work. They have played an important part in helping us with the development of The Makasutu Training Centre and Derek Knottenbelt Veterinary Hospital which is having a big impact on improving animal welfare in The Gambia”
