Dolphin Society – Pendant alarms

“The Dolphin Society, one of Bristol’s oldest charities, is very grateful to the Elise Pilkington Charitable Trust for their very generous grant which will enable us to carry on helping elderly people to live independently in their own homes.

This money will be used to fund pendant alarms (telecare) for disadvantaged people at risk of falling.”

Figures from the 2018 Joint Strategic  Needs Assessment, Health and Wellbeing in Bristol indicate that our local need increases: Bristol’s rate of emergency admissions for injuries due to falls is significantly higher than England average.

87% of falls are from private addresses.

In Bristol over the last 5 years, the rate of falls per 100,000 persons aged 80+ years has been increasing and is significantly higher than England average.

20% of all older people (over 60) in Bristol are income deprived.

We pay for the installation, maintenance and 24/7 monitoring of pendant alarms for those who cannot self-fund. This relatively low-tech equipment gives peace of mind to those who fear falling and their families. Its installation means that people can leave hospital in a timely manner safe in the knowledge that they can call for help at any time.
