Isabel Hospice was delighted to receive a £3,000 grant from The Elise Pilkington Trust to help fund its Hospice at Home service, demand for which continues to grow as more and more people choose to spend their final days at home.
Now approaching its 40th anniversary, Isabel Hospice has been providing free palliative care to patients and their families living in eastern Hertfordshire since 1982.
Supporting people to die with dignity in the place of their choice is at the heart of Isabel’s very special approach to care.
Extended in 2015 following a review, our Hospice at Home service supports upwards of 400 people a year, offering symptom control and personal care to people at the end of their lives, as well as specialist palliative support for those with complex or severe symptoms that have left them and their families on the brink of crisis.
Despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, our Hospice at Home team has continued to provide its expert, compassionate care to those in need out in our communities, supporting those who otherwise may have been left to struggle on alone and unsupported.
The coronavirus crisis has, however, had a significant impact on the ways we generate the vital income we need to fund our specialist services, so this grant from The Elise Pilkington Trust will enable us to continue reaching out to the most vulnerable in our community, helping to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions and supporting patients to die in their preferred place of care.
