ReadiBus is delighted to have received a grant of £5,000 from Elise Pilkington Charitable Trust towards a new minibus for the service which operates across Berkshire. ReadiBus’ aim is to enable people to get out and about locally despite frailty or disability.
Many older people cannot leave home without assistance such as receiving an arm for support, help carrying bags or help pushing a wheelchair. This can reduce the number of opportunities to leave the house and can cause isolation and loneliness.
ReadiBus provides door-to-door assisted journeys to thousands of older people across Berkshire. The service is often considered a lifeline, enabling older people with restricted mobility the opportunity to keep active, maintain wellbeing and independence.
In April 2017 a new minibus was purchased and a ceremony was held with about 80 people attending, including more than 50 of our service users.
The Right Worshipful Mayor of Reading, Cllr Mohammed Ayub is presenting a giant size ‘key to the bus’ to the Team Worker, Sandy Edward, who will be driving it most of the time.
