RSPCA – Portable weigh bridges

On behalf of everyone here at the RSPCA and all the equines in our care, please pass on my sincere thanks to the trustees of The Elise Pilkington Charitable Trust for their generous gift of £7,200 to enable us to purchase portable equine weigh bridges for our 3 equine centres.

These portable weigh bridges will be invaluable in helping our dedicated equine staff to quickly assess and monitor a horse’s welfare and fitness levels, which, in turn will reduce their time in Private Boarding Establishments, reduce their time in our care and ensure they are ready for rehoming as soon as possible.

‘As Head of Equine Operations I sadly see a continual intake of emaciated and seriously ill horses and ponies coming into our care every month. Your generous donation to fund three weighbridges for our equine team will be fundamental in allowing us to accurately and successfully nurse these animals back to health. Re-feeding emaciated equines can require a great deal of skill and care due to their sensitive digestive tracts, and the ability to be able to weigh them accurately and prepare individual diets based on their weight and condition will truly be life changing for these animals. As a team we would like to thank you wholeheartedly for this much needed funding for life-saving equipment’ – Loni Loftus
