Scottish SPCA – Replacement Field Shelters

Scottish SPCA is Scotland’s animal welfare charity which has been on-hand to protect all species of animals and prevent cruelty for over 180 years. They rescue equines from all over Scotland and treat and rehabilitate them at their Aberdeenshire and Edinburgh centres with a view to rehoming where possible.

A generous grant from Elise Pilkington Charitable Trust has been awarded to Scottish SPCA which will help them to rebuild the shelters at their Banchory centre which were destroyed in Storm Arwen. The grant will also contribute to the construction of additional shelters which will offer more cover to the equines in their care.

Centre manager, Louise Griese, said, “Storm Arwen had a devastating effect on our centre in November 2021 when it completely levelled our horse shelters.

“These shelters allowed our horses to graze outside while still offering protection from the elements. Many of the horses in our care come from backgrounds of abuse and neglect so having time outside to exhibit natural behaviours like grazing is an important part of their rehabilitation.

“This incredibly generous donation from Elise Pilkington Charitable Trust will not only help us to replace the two original field shelters that were destroyed, but also allow us to build more so that our horses can be shielded from the worst of the Aberdeenshire weather while we search for their forever homes.
